Think about the word "OCEAN"
Brainstorm descriptions, senses, images, feelings... How would you define it?
How do perceptions vary based on personal experience and character?
Small Groups- Draw a card. Discuss the word allowing each group member to speak about the word without being interrupted. Brainstorm descriptions, senses, images, feelings, definitions on post-it notes for the word, gathering at least 5 post its.
Repeat until group has completed this for 3 cards.
Post notes on class charts.
Discuss each chart as a class.

Share plan for 9 weeks. What texts? What skills? What are we going to be graded on?
Independent Reading
You will need a book this quarter to journal! We will be doing some specific journaling on ideas such as characterization and theme. You will need your book DAILY! Be prepared for frequent checks and opportunities to compare and share.
Library Time
Go to the library and peruse the shelves in search of a book for this quarter. If you already have one with you, find a quiet seat to sit and read.
